welcome to texas!

I took my mid-week trip to Texas this morning and had some time to kill, so I drove around (and took some pictures) of downtown Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass is a small border town (population only about 40,000- not even a quarter of Piedras' population) just across the Rio Grande from Piedras Negras, Mexico. After doing a little research, I found that it was the first US settlement along the Rio Grande back in the 1840's (for all you history buffs, that was during the Mexican-American War). It's a tiny place, just over 7 square miles, and I would venture to say that most of the residents speak Spanish. The downtown area consists of just one main street with a few stop lights and a lot of character.

welcome to Eagle Pass, Texas

this building looks newer, but has much of the same architecture of the others I saw

I was tempted to drop in on the Senator, but I didn't.

I did enjoy the clock tower before moving on.

I then stumbled upon the library

and these neat, old buildings

and this really neat old train station

and then before I knew it, I was headed back to Mexico

but I didn't turn and instead admired the artwork on the side of the "old" bridge (look closely & you'll see some pedestrians)

and then checked out Piedras across the river

but then it was time to finish my errands...and now it's time to go to bed!
