things are better

We had scare yesterday afternoon.  The city was flooded in many areas, no water was to be found (even at the water purifying places they were unable to sell water because the city water was off), regular gas was out, and there were rumors of both bridges closing.  We have 80 missionaries here this week...with food to last through today & water to last through Friday, if we were careful.  John (Director of Construction) and I decided to chance a trip across the border, knowing that we may not be able to make it, and if we did, we may not make it back.  We cleared Walmart & HEB out of gallon bottles of water and were able to get back across, all the while thinking best case scenario, we would laugh about a truck load of unnecessary water in the next few days.

Fast forward several hours...they never closed the bridge and water was restored to most of the city by 10:00 pm last night.  Much of the city is still underwater, and people are stranded or cannot make it home, but the water is down.

Officially, the water crested at 6:15 pm last night at 35 ft.  Last report, the water is now down to 26 feet.  We made it back across this morning for groceries and even though our water supplier has not made it by (and is not answering the phone), we were able to fill up the rack.  We're good here...and have over a hunderd extra gallons of water!  We're hoping to take it out to some of the hardest hit neighborhoods in Piedras this afternoon.  More on that later...I'm off to help pick up roof panels.
