El Presidente Municipal de Piedras Negras (the mayor) Jose Maldonado, was in a small plane crash and died this morning. He, along with five others (one a state official), were surveying the flood damage, when a mechanical failure caused the plane to go down.
Maldonado was elected last fall and began serving his term in January. He was well-loved and respected by many and was doing great things for this city. El Presidente was also our neighbor for the summer (see earlier post) and a good friend of CPC.

Oh Emily, so sad to hear the news...I'm glad he served the public so well... sorry for his loss and the loss of the others.
