the river's high

The rain continues and the river is higher than I've ever seen it today.  The local paper reported hundreds of homes underwater on both sides of the border this morning.  David, one of our morning cooks, told me he saw animals- horses & cows- doing their best to stay above water on his way to the hotel this morning.  Both bridges to the US are still open, but the water is high, almost too high.

I found this picture from last year- it was one I took in Texas looking across to Piedras.  The Rio Grande is not visible in the picture, but it's in the background, behind the tall shrubs (and a white truck).  Today, the water is quite possibly to the tops of the flags on the concrete columns.

If you get a chance, say a little prayer for these people- not just in this area, but all along the Texas/Mexico border.  We're all hoping the end is in sight...and hoping for a beautiful, sunny Mexican day!
