it's fixed & a look back

My computer is fixed!! The plan was to send it to a computer guy in town, but Enrique at the front desk came to my rescue and was able to reformat the harddrive (I think) instead. Unfortunately, I lost everything, but it's working!

I suppose I have some catching up to do, though...starting with my travel day.

Last Thursday was a long day. I traveled Birmingham to Atlanta, Atlanta to San Antonio, San Antonio to Eagle Pass, then Eagle Pass to Piedras Negras, Mexico. Much to my surprise, I was able to drive one of the stored CPC vehicles down from San Antonio instead of taking the dreaded Greyhound bus! I traveled the scenic route through Bandara, Hondo, Uvalde & a handful of other small Texas towns. The sun was shining, few cars on the road, and the end was in sight.

You may even say I got a little bored.....but no worries, things picked up when Officer Pena entered the scene. Just after a highway checkpoint, not 20 miles from the border, he pulled me (along with 3 other lucky drivers) over. I guess I should also mention that he was traveling towards me, pointed at me as he drove by, then u-turned it with his lights on forcing me over. But no worries, after searching the minivan and asking quite a few questions, he let me off with a warning, then proceded to lead me to the border- how nice of him, right?

I got a green light, and according to the sign, I'm in Coahuila at last (Piedras Negras is the city, Coahuila is the state)

It's great to be back & to see my Mexico "family". I'm slowly getting used to the heat (just in time for the really warm weather) and the 4:00 am wake-up alarms. The siestas, as always, are a highlight of my day. I haven't taken many pictures, but now that I'm up and running again, I promise more next week.

We have 3 more staff members coming in today and have 5 groups (over 100 folks) coming in tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be a busy week, so I'm going to enjoy the downtime while I can...voy a la piscina (off to the pool)!
