the CPC store

CPC's first mission is to break the cycle of poverty through housing, education and health care. The housing part of that is in full swing (with 5 new houses started today). The health care happens at the clinic when we have medical teams visit. The education component is fulfilled through our library and preschool. The Preschool serves 3 year-old children of Peidres. Though they have plans to expand, one day even opening an elementary school, the current program runs a morning and afternoon session and serves 20-30 children per year.

CPC has a store at the hotel with a variety of items...and 100% of the proceeds go back to the preschool. Here's what I found when I walked through the store today.


Starfish t-shirts are always a big seller! The starfish story is seen over and over again in CPC literature and always a big theme on trips to Piedras.


It's important to stay hydrated! Waterbottles, waterbottles, and more waterbottles...they even have insulated ones this year. Coffee cups are also a big hit as early mornings & long work days tend to bring the coffee-drinkers out in full force. You also see reusable grocery bags- just came in last week, pocket English/Spanish dictionaries, hats & bags on this shelf.


For the card writers, you have "Children of Mexico" cards (hand-drawn sketches of some of the kids CPC has met over the years.


I also love these handmade cross & Peace cards- they are stamped and glittered....made by our very own preschool teacher. You also see some frisbees on the bottom shelf.


And last, but not least, we see the assorted jewelry. They've had more in past years...and promise a larger supply next year!


To keep it honest, here's the messy storage room (aka the unused bathroom).

{Did you notice the nice, newly tiled bathroom? They remodeled all of the bathrooms in the C wing of the hotel...a definite upgrade from the yellow bathroom of the past!}
